Developing personal skills and strengthening community action are
two components of the Ottawa Charter that the Ontario Breastfeeding
Committee recognizes as integral to their objectives. Professional
education is ongoing and gaining momentum in Ontario. Advocacy and
integration of the BFI messaging in many areas of health care is important
for the normalization of breastfeeding.
To encourage policy-makers to examine their own progress on child
and youth issues and to foster discussion among Canadians, the Canadian
Paediatric Society produces a biennial report on public policy affecting
