| Building healthy policy, creating supportive environments and reorienting health services are components of the Ottawa Charter and are the basis for the strategic plan for the Ontario Breastfeeding Committee. The Recommendations for a Provincial Breastfeeding Strategy for Ontario, The Ontario Progress Report and the Ministry of Health Promotion Public Health Units Breastfeeding Supports and Services Survey Report are documents that demonstrate what is happening in Ontario and the direction required for improved rates of breastfeeding in Ontario. The evidence for the benefits of breastfeeding for moms and babies and the risks of not doing so are well documented. The benefits of adopting the Baby –friendly initiative are also well evidenced.
